高中二年级时，他有幸成为新年晚会的总编辑，负责整场晚会的文字准备与编辑工作，他将自己关在宿舍里好多天，闭门造车的结果是他整理出来一大堆无用的文字，无论是主持人的台词还是晚会的串词，都是漏洞百出。
晚会的总导演法克先生，是教务处的副主席，法克先生认为编辑工作是整场晚会的支柱，如果编辑不到位，或者是根本就不会组织，整场晚会就无法顺利完成。他以十分轻蔑的眼光瞅着面前这个一度不可一世的“混世魔王”，二话不说，要求学校教务处撤销他的总编辑资格。
他很快收到了通知，通知里一句话简洁明了：总编辑工作另觅他人。这对于一个刚刚十七岁的孩子来说，无异于五雷轰顶。
他的眼泪肆无忌惮地攻击着自己的脸颊，他找到了总导演与学校里的一些官员们，要求他们收回成命，自己会从头再来，下一次肯定会取得成功。
没有人理睬一个孩子的心情，一些好事的学子们将此事传得沸沸扬扬，他们的潜台词就是：做人不要太自以为是，人外有人，天外有天。

法克的目光盯在组织者的名字上：弗朗索瓦·奥朗德。
奥朗德在宿舍里模拟了整场晚会的全部节目，与两位同学一块儿锤炼语言，尽可能做到每句台词都逼真地反映现场的气氛。他以一场经典的传奇式的补救措施，惊艳全校，学校通讯社认定他注定是一个惊天动地的人才。
奥朗德在一周后的校报上刊登了专栏文章《打败昨天的自己》：人最大的对手不是敌人，而是自己，人无时无刻不在与昨天的自己斗争，你的目标是打败昨天的你，不能让昨天的你凌驾于今天的你和明天的你的脖子上面。
奥朗德大学毕业后便踏入了政坛，开始只是个无名小卒，后来一路顺风顺水地由一个“潜力股”飙升为“绩优股”，他擅长演讲，且极富有“煽动性”，2001年至今，他一直担任法国社会党的领袖，2012年，他以社会党推荐候选人的身份与人民运动联盟候选人现任总统萨科齐一起角逐法国总统。
在竞选演讲中，他提出了“号召全民力量，振兴经济”的口号，他提醒大家：学会反省自我，昨天的我不堪一击，今天和明天的我一定是最优秀的，我们的国家同样如此，虽然面临经济停滞，但只要全民同心，与昨天的国家斗争，明天的国家一定会充满希望，朝阳就在我们的前方。
