10、在中国近代和现代革命史上，广州有着重要的地位。1841年英军侵犯广州时代，广州郊区103乡的国民自动组织起来，在三元里一带给英国侵犯军以有力的袭击。辛亥革命前夕，孙中山等人曾以广州为基地，多次举行武装起义，为推翻帝制、创建民主共和国进行了不懈的斗争。1911年4月27日广州起义（又称黄花岗起义），为辛亥革命吹响了前奏。1917年孙中山在广州组织护法军政府，被选为海陆军大元帅，誓师北伐。
